If you want to read more poetry but aren’t sure what to start with, there are several wonderful books to choose from. You can start with Rankine’s Citizen an American Lyric and work your way through to Elizabeth Bishop’s Complete Poems. From there, you can move on to more classic poems, like Robert Frost’s Recipe for Disaster or Rupi Kaur’s The Sun and Her Flowers. If you’re a beginner, this is the perfect book to read first.

Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric

Claudia Rankine’s Citizen is a book-length poem and lyric essay that stretches the conventions of traditional lyric poetry, interweaving several different forms of text and media to create a sweeping collective portrait of race relations in the United States. While some of the themes in Citizen are familiar, others are strikingly new. While this is not a novel, it is a significant work of art and a must-read for anyone who loves lyric poetry.

Elizabeth Bishop’s Complete Poems

William Carlos Williams is considered one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century, and the Boston Globe named his latest book, Elizabeth Bishop’s Complete Poetry, one of the best books of poetry of 2011. In addition to this volume, William Carlos Williams has written a number of other works. His work is considered one of the most influential books of poetry in the English language. The complete poetry collection is a must-read for anyone interested in reading the work of this American poet.

Robert Frost’s Recipe for Disaster

The theme of adversity in Robert Frost’s poem, “Recipe for Disaster,” can be read in many ways. Frost uses symbols found in the public domain to create an original modern idiom with a sense of directness and economy. In his poems, he reflects the imagism of Amy Lowell and Ezra Pound. But Frost makes no departures from nineteenth-century poetics, avoiding traditional verse forms and only using erratically rhymed lines. He is not an innovator, but he does use some techniques that contemporary poets do not use.

Rupi Kaur’s The Sun and Her Flowers

The Sun and Her Flowers is a novel written by Rupi Kaur and published in 2017. It consists of five chapters and includes illustrations by the author. The book’s subject matter is about the meaning of life. It has been described as a love letter to nature and to the women who are shaped by it. It is one of the most recent books published by the author. The book is a moving read for anyone who wants to explore a subject they may find difficult to tackle.

Gwendolyn Brooks

American poet, author, and educator Gwendolyn Elizabeth Brooks’s work often dealt with personal celebrations and struggles within her own community. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1950, becoming the first African American recipient. Her most well-known poems are titled “Celebrations” and “Paradise” and can be found in many different languages. For many people, these works are simply beautiful.

Robert Frost

There are many different Robert Frost poetry books to choose from, and each one can be enjoyed for different reasons. The great poet was first published in England, then in the United States. His books are available in many different formats, including print, eBook, and audiobook. Each one will be unique and special, and is sure to make you think about the poems Frost wrote. These books are also available for purchase as gifts, so it’s important to buy one that you enjoy.

Rupi Kaur

The second collection of poems by Rupi Kaur, The Sun and Her Flowers, is as beautiful and emotionally moving as her first book. Divided into five chapters, “The Sun” tells a story of healing and repatriation, as well as embracing the beauty of ancestry and honoring our roots. The poems also explore feminism, motherly love, and sexual assault. Each poem is paired with an illustrated page, which makes them a visual feast to the eyes.
